AMD-640 chipset

The AMD-640 chipset, introduced in 1997, is a chipset designed for Socket 7 motherboards. It was developed under license from VIA Technologies, being based on VIA's Apollo VP2/97 core logic. The chipset supports AMD K6 and other Socket 7 processors, providing standard features such as PCI bus, EDO and SDRAM memory support, and integrated I/O controllers. It was used in budget and mid-range systems of the era.
